AI is great at planning.
It's bad at doing — because it has no hands.

missionctl gives your AI hands. Each app runs locally on your machine and exposes MCP tools that Claude (or any MCP client) can call directly — no cloud, no subscriptions, no data leaving your computer.

How it works

AI plans. missionctl executes. Your data stays local.

01

You ask Claude

"Give me a morning briefing"
"Schedule a launch campaign"

──→
02

Claude calls MCP tools

67 tools across 9 apps,
running locally on your machine

──→
03

missionctl acts

Reads Apple Mail, creates calendar events,
writes to your Obsidian vault

──→
04

Apple APIs / Files

Mail, Calendar, Reminders,
Obsidian, CSV exports

The umbrella app

Mission control for your terminal

Type missionctl and every app shows up on one live dashboard — including your social posts from postctl. This is the real TUI, shown with made-up demo data.

Frequently asked

missionctl is a suite of 9 local-first terminal apps — mail, calendar, tasks, notes, budget, diary, time tracking, habits, and social posting — that expose 67 MCP tools so an AI assistant can act on your behalf directly from your own machine. All data stays local; there is no missionctl cloud service, and every app is free to download and use.

MCP is an open protocol, created by Anthropic, that lets AI assistants call external tools — like reading your calendar or sending an email — through a standard interface. Every missionctl app ships its own local MCP server (<app> mcp) so an MCP-capable client such as Claude Desktop can use it directly.

It lets your AI assistant actually do the busywork instead of just discussing it — draft and send email replies, triage your calendar and find free slots, keep your task list current, log time and generate invoices, write a developer diary from your git history — through natural conversation instead of switching between apps.

All 9 apps are free to download and use (MIT licensed). A one-time $39 Bundle (or $9 per feature individually) unlocks optional AI features in 5 of the apps — no subscription either way. postctl Pro is sold separately on postctl.sh, as a subscription. For the AI client side: Claude Desktop's free plan already supports local MCP servers, so no paid Claude plan is required. missionctl's own AI features also work with a free-tier Gemini key or a fully local Ollama model at no cost at all.

notectl, budgetctl, diaryctl, timectl, and habctl work on macOS and Linux. mailctl now does too, via a Thunderbird backend (currently in testing — see the mailctl page for details). calctl and taskctl still require macOS (they bridge Calendar and Reminders).

All data stays on your machine. missionctl never calls any external server. The only network calls are what you explicitly trigger (sending an email, publishing a post, or an optional AI call).

mailctl and calctl launch Apple Mail and Calendar in the background via AppleScript if they aren't open. No manual intervention needed.

Yes. Every tool has a full CLI (mailctl inbox --json, taskctl today, etc.). The TUI is the default but optional.

Updates are free. Run brew upgrade <tool>, or pull the latest from GitHub and re-run ./setup.sh.
